Lag Serein

A beautiful hike through traditional mountain farming with valley, Maiensäss, and alpine operations up to above the tree line. Then follows a high-altitude path through the alpine landscape to the idyllic Lag Serein, in which the surrounding mountain peaks are reflected. It is said to be one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Graubünden.

Description

The hike starts at the gravel parking lot by the Restaurant Miraval, just before Sogn Benedetg. For the first few hundred meters, follow the village street to Sogn Benedetg, where the actual ascent begins – on a well-marked hiking trail towards Alp Glivers. After a steep climb, about 650 of the over 1000 meters of elevation gain have already been completed – reason enough for a well-deserved break in the charming alpine hut at Alp Glivers.

The path continues uphill to the idyllic Lag Serein, one of the probably most beautiful mountain lakes in the canton of Graubünden – so it is told at least. In the midst of a rocky landscape, surrounded by mountain flowers and sparse meadows, the lake lies impressively at the foot of the mighty Tödi massif.

The return route leads over the known ascent path for the first meters but then branches off and runs via Alp Crap Ner and Fallas – covering about 1000 meters of descent. Especially on hot summer days, the shady forest in the lower section offers pleasant cooling and a relaxed end to this scenic route.

Hidden Gem

With a driving permit to Alp Glivers, the hike can be significantly shortened.

A visit to the alpine hut at Alp Glivers is almost a must

A visit to the chapel in Sogn Benedetg, designed by the renowned architect Peter Zumthor – an architectural masterpiece amid the mountain world – is also definitely worthwhile.

Safety Note

The route should not be started in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar develops during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Equipment

Good hiking shoes with a good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket), possibly change of clothes, first aid kit, drink, provisions, possibly hiking poles.
