Maloja- Lägh da Cavloc
This hike takes you from the mountain pass village Maloja to the beautiful mountain lake Lej da Cavloc.
Details
Description
The holiday resort Maloja at the southwestern end of Lake Sils connects two fascinating landscapes: the Upper Engadine lake district and the Grison southern valley Bergell (Val Bregaglia). The village is also characterized by its unusual location, because while on one side the still small Inn river begins its long journey across Europe, on the other side the Maloja Pass descends 200 steep meters into Bergell.
This classic hike takes you from the mountain pass village to the Bergell Lägh da Cavloc, a magnificent mountain lake at the confluence of the Forno and Muretto valleys. Lined with fir trees on the north and west shores, the lake is easily accessible on its southern shore for swimmers thanks to a small beach.
The short (approx. 5 km) but moderately difficult hike due to the steady ascent leads from the parking lot near the Orden dam along a wide path steadily uphill. Once at the top, hikers are rewarded not only by the enchanting mountain lake idyll but also pampered with culinary delights at a small mountain restaurant right on the shore. Those who prefer to take care of their own catering can use the beautiful barbecue spots.
