Description
Beautiful, varied hike through forests and over green meadow terraces. Previously, the old Zerfreila path was the only connection between Zerfreila and Vals on the right side of the valley. Shady forest paths with steeper, rocky sections alternate with green meadow areas. The path mostly runs through the forest. There is always something interesting along the way: the "warma Kracha", a deep rock crevice, the Calvari Chapel in the forest, and again and again the view into the deep Rotabärg gorge.
Hidden Gem
The old Zerfreila path has been marked since summer 2017 with signs indicating the historical field names. A flyer about this is available at the start and end of the hike or at the Visit Vals tourist office.
Safety Note
Surefootedness required. Beware of partly wet rock slabs.

Below the Gross Cheer, the old Zerfreila path crosses the road for the first time. Continue following the path. After the second crossing of Zerfreila street over a small stream. Crossing another stream to Grüana Wasa. The path continues over the Seetobel (the stream that flows from Selvasee) ascending in a stair-like manner over large rocks and stones. Pass right by the Bildbalma. Now the path becomes less steep and leads through forest clearings with wet rock slabs up to the height of Rotabärg. On the right, the rocks drop almost vertically into the gorge. Cross another stream again. On the left comes the Kippe. Now through partly open forest to Geissfelli. Continue past the Warma Kracha (a deep rock crevice) to the Calvari Chapel. Further to the forest meadow Ussera Bleika and then to Inner Bleika. Through open woodland, follow the path to the Zervreila restaurant.
