Details
Description
Between Laufböden and the Pizol hut, stretched out on the Pizol high plateau, there is a splendid circular hiking trail. The highlight is the walkable summit panorama as well as the photo stele of the Grand Tour of Switzerland at the viewpoint Tagweidlichopf. The circular path is dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage Tektonikarena Sardona. The hike offers sensational views of the surrounding mountain world and, thanks to the information boards, fascinating insights into the formation of the Alps in the region.
Hidden Gem
The Pizol Panorama High Altitude Route is part of the Grand Tour of Switzerland and is equipped with one of the distinctive photo steles.
Equipment
Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate and durable clothing in a multi-layer principle, if necessary telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, if necessary headlamp, map material
Directions
From the mountain station Laufböden we start hiking over the lower part of the Pizol Panorama High Altitude Route. The route is well signposted from the station. While hiking towards the Pizol hut, we pass by the Wangsersee after about 25 minutes. We walk past the lake and reach the Pizol hut after another 10 minutes. On the way back, the path again leads past the Wangsersee. At the fork, we continue straight ahead. The path leads us up to the viewpoint Tagweidlichopf with the Grand Tour of Switzerland photo stele. From here we enjoy a wonderful panoramic view. Then the route goes back down and over the high plateau back to the station Laufböden.
The route can also be done in the opposite direction. This way, the hike starts and ends at the Pizol hut, which can be reached with the Pizol cable cars from the valley station in Wangs.
