Description

A strong wind blows at Hospezi Sontga Maria, as almost always in this place. But as soon as we gain some height and reach the broad ascent ridge, it gets better. We are in a multilingual area and not alone. Sometimes we greet with Grüezi, with Bien di or with Buongiorno! From mid-February, it may happen that we encounter lekking capercaillies, so it is best to behave as inconspicuously as possible. The summit slope looks steeper from a distance than it really is. Usually, someone has already broken trail, but we put on crampons, better safe than sorry. In a few switchbacks, we reach the winter summit and now have views into Val Piora up to Lake Ritom. To the south, the Rheinwaldhorn beckons us, to the north the Tödi and the Oberalpstock. Fantastico!

Descent options:

Option 1: Via the eastern slopes to Alpe di Croce to the pass road.

Option 2: Along the ascent track over the broad ridge. Recommended in unfavorable avalanche conditions.

Option 3: To the north over Ovi dell'uomo into Val Termine. Good spring option. The skins must be reattached at the lake.

Tip: Since the Lukmanier Pass is not accessible by public transport in winter, a call bus is available upon request:
