Description
The ascent begins right at the start from Poschiavo towards Cologna. The path up to the hamlet of Cansumé is not particularly demanding and ideal for those who want to gradually acclimatize to the altitude. The elevation difference on the narrow asphalt road is about 600 meters. The view from Cansumé stretches over most of the west flank of the valley and its peaks: Cresti da Vartegna, Piz Cancian with Pizzo Scalino in the background, Corno Campascio, and Piz Varuna. At the hairpin turn before the alpine pastures, you leave the asphalt road to first continue on a natural path and then on the mule track towards Gügliel and Balegna. Here starts the gravel path leading to the highlight of the tour: Sclupetoir 1906 meters above sea level. A stop at the small alpine pasture group to admire the valley from above is almost a must.
The path continues downhill on a natural trail; at the end, on the left side, a path starts that leads directly to San Romerio. In this section, the tour is rocky and can be slippery when wet. After visiting the picturesque chapel of San Romerio and tasting delicious local Puschlav specialties in the nearby shelter, the route continues on natural road to Piaz.
During the descent, it is advisable to remain attentive as the road is built overhanging the lake. The journey continues on asphalt. After about one kilometer towards Viano, turn right to Garbela via Selvaplana. Garbela, a cheerful residential district of the Brusio municipality, is left behind to follow the path to Miralago. There, the clear water of Lake Puschlav invites the brave for a refreshing swim, while others can enjoy the view from the terrace of the Miralago restaurant, resembling a panorama map. Along the lakeshore and through Le Prese, Poschiavo is reached again, and the route ends with a comfortable, flat section.
Safety Note
