Description

The route starts at the station and initially follows the Hinterrhein downstream. Already after about 12 kilometers, the Polenweg opens impressive views of the Hinterrhein and the surrounding valley.

In the Reichenau area, you reach the confluence of the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein, where from this point the Rhine flows as a single river towards the North Sea. Then the route leads via the Via Camagna near Bonaduz, a scenic section with views into the Rhine Gorge.

Other highlights are natural color accents like poppy fields near Bonaduz, the Versam-Safien station as a rest and orientation point, as well as quiet forest and floodplain sections between Rhäzüns and Rothenbrunnen, before the route finally leads back to the destination station.

Equipment

  • Gravel bike or sporty trekking bike
  • Helmet recommended
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Enough drinking water
  • Small snack for the way
  • Optional: gloves and sun or rain protection

Directions

The tour features a clearly gravel-typical path structure. Most of the route runs on paths and low-traffic side roads, supplemented by short sections on regular roads and bike paths. Singletrail sections are only very short and technically simple.

The surface is dominated by asphalted sections, complemented by loose surfaces and firm gravel, especially in the natural river and forest sections. Short sections with cobblestones and road surfaces add variety without significantly affecting the riding flow.
