Grösster Holzbrunnen Europas: Dorfbrunnen von Valendas
The route feels like it takes you into the untouched wilderness of Canada and the Grand Canyon, only to shortly be welcomed again by the seemingly endless forest right on the Rhine. One of the gravel highlights of the region can be ridden as a hilly day trip or as a sharp training ride.

Description

From Ilanz it first goes comfortably on the lightly traveled main road towards the east. Versam is the first intermediate destination, as from there it goes into the Safien Valley. Gently but steadily ascending, you reach the highest point of our round at the junction to Tenna.

High above the Rabiusa, you partly ride inside the rock downhill. The impressive deep views and the silence of nature are impressive. In front of the Versam gorge, you will also find a challenging but rideable, snake-like single trail.

At Trin station – in the middle of the famous Rhine Gorge – you reach the lowest point of the tour. From there you have to master the second climb. This is crowned by the magnificent panoramic view from the "il Spir" viewing platform. Everything that comes after is dessert: the view of the famous Cauma Lake, the rollercoaster-like descent to Bargaus, and the original village scene of Sagogn. They accompany you on the way back to the starting point in Ilanz.

Hidden Gem

In the 1.7 km long Aclatobel Tunnel in the Safien Valley, there is a narrow sidewalk to ride on. A functioning rear light, however, provides additional safety.

The route is not suitable for beginners as it leads partly over exposed paths and short trail sections in the Versam gorge. Safe riding skills are essential.

The "il Spir" viewing platform is a must for trips to the Surselva holiday region. Nowhere else do you enjoy such an impressive view over the Ruinaulta (Rhine Gorge).

Safety Note

In the area of the rock tunnels there is a short section with an exposed single trail.  Here you should definitely walk a few meters. Nausea is not necessarily required.
