Description

Upon entering the Lavtina valley, you also enter the federal hunting reserve Graue Hörner, founded in 1901. After the ibex were extinct in Switzerland in 1809, free-living ibex were released here for the first time in 1911. Upon arriving in the valley basin, the impressive waterfall arena of Batöni opens up, where a total of four waterfalls tumble over the steep steps. Here begins the steep ascent to Heidel Pass with an excellent view of the razor-sharp line of the Glarus thrust at Ringelspitz and the Sardona-Segnes group. With some luck, you may spot a bearded vulture reintroduced in the Calfeisen valley. The view is especially spectacular at the idyllic Plattenseeli.

Safety Note

Attention: Snowfields are possible at high-altitude sections into the summer months.

On warm early summer days, the streams on the way to the Sardona hut can swell, making crossing difficult. Therefore, on these days, you should not start this demanding stage too late.
