Details

Description

We start our route at the upper end of the village of Segnas and at the beginning we occasionally meet skiers. For the first 15 minutes, we walk along the valley slope in the Val Segnas. Then we turn left onto a forest road into the woods and steadily climb to the first huts of Run Cunel.

At the alpine pastures in Prau Sura we take a break. Leaning against one of the sun-warmed huts, we enjoy the silence and the view of Piz Medel. We make a few rounds in the fresh snow on the open field before starting the descent to Mompé Tujetsch. This leads us through a forest that seems like a fairy tale. As soon as we reach the winter hiking trail, we pack the snowshoes on our backpacks and hike back to Segnas.

Variant: To the Mompé Tujetsch train station and back to the starting point by train

Hidden Gem

We find a start board with further information about the route at the starting point in Segnas.

Safety Note

Do not leave the path through the forest (wildlife sanctuary). The route is marked, but those unfamiliar with the area are advised to print out and carry the topographic map for the route.

Equipment

Safety equipment not required (avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel)

Directions

Above the village of Segnas, we follow the pink markings and hike into the Val Segnas until the left turn to Prau Sura. On a wide path, we reach the highest point after about 1 hour. Now we head southwards, either following the signposts or making our own tracks across the open field. At the fountain in Prau Sura, the path now descends through a forest down to Mompe Tujetsch. From here, we hike back to Segnas without snowshoes.
