Description

On this tour, the entire length of the Val Lumnezia - the Valley of Light - can be hiked. The trails are mostly easy, so you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes to the fullest. Highlights include the award-winning village of Vrin, the imposing wooden bridge in the Val da Mulin, Luven with its covered village fountain and, at the very end, the town of Ilanz with its well-preserved historic buildings.

After a recommended tour of the village in Vrin, the hike begins in the direction of Lumbrein. The first 300 meters are along the little-used cantonal road. In Mons, shortly after a 90° bend, the trail branches off in the direction of Lumbrein. The narrow path leads through mature spruce forest with lush ground vegetation to Val Miedra and the mountain pastures above Nussau. After a short climb, you reach a panoramic path with a magnificent view of Lumbrein. The wooden bridge over the Val da Mulin is undoubtedly one of the greatest attractions of hiking tourism in Val Lumnezia. The high-altitude trail leads over numerous mountain pastures with carefully tended hay meadows and pastures.

In Morissen it is worth stopping to admire the beautiful wooden houses. On a field path, it then goes down in a large loop to the hay stables of Scansins. First through forest, then through mowing meadows and swampy terrain, the view opens up into the Gruob, where Lake Ilanz once dammed up after the Flims landslide. In the pretty village of Luven we treat ourselves to a view of the mountain range of Piz Signina and Piz Fess opposite. We continue through the forest with its imposing beech and sycamore trees, past the church of Sogn Martin down to Ilanz, the first town on the Rhine.

Attention: Between Flond and Luven there is a diversion of the hiking trail due to storm damage. This is well signalled in the terrain.
