Description

We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. With the Palfries cable car, we have previously overcome about 1,250 meters in altitude in just 12 minutes. The cable car travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.

From the mountain station, the hike leads to the Palfries mountain inn, where after the parking lot it goes uphill towards Alvier. "In de Stei" the mountain path branches off to the left and leads us over "Mürli" to Alp Malun. From there, it goes over pastures and natural roads to the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis.

After the break at/in the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis, our path mainly leads back over natural roads to the Palfries mountain station. The section from Alp Castilu to the mountain restaurant Stralrüfi leads over alpine pastures. – The pond at the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis with the Swiss family fire pit invites you to linger.

Hidden Gem

From the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis, an alternative shuttle bus is available for the return trip to the Palfries valley station. The ride must be reserved in advance (cable car valley station or directly at the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis). Departure is at 4:00 p.m. or from the end of September at 3:00 p.m.

Equipment

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate and durable clothing in a layering system, if applicable telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, if applicable headlamp, maps

Directions

From the Palfries mountain station, we hike 500 meters along the paved alpine road to the Palfries mountain inn. Immediately after the gravel parking lot, we take the mountain path to the right towards Alvier. After about half an hour, you reach "in de Stei" where it continues to the left. You experience a wonderful alpine spring with the most diverse and beautiful alpine flowers on the trail to "Mürli" and further towards Alp Malun. The path takes us over alpine pastures and through wetlands. The alp is accessible by a natural road from our set hiking destination. We follow this for around 400 meters and then turn left again onto a hiking trail.

In "Schwamm" we again reach the alpine access road and follow it to the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis.

From Hotel Kurhaus Sennis, we hike back towards Alp Malun. Upon reaching the junction, choose the path towards Schwamm. After Schwamm, the path leads us to the "Luegi" viewpoint. Here we are surprised by a view over the mountain world, the Seeztal, and the Walensee. Our route continues towards Alp Castilu. From there, we hike over pastures to the forest road towards Alp Älpeli. From here, the hike continues towards the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant.

We continue following the natural road to the gravel parking lot. Upon reaching the Palfries mountain inn, we hike about 500 meters along the paved alpine road back to the Palfries mountain station.
