The marked snowshoe trail offers everything a great day route should provide: plenty of untouched winter landscapes and wide views. It can be enhanced culinarly at Cuolm Sura or the Bündner Rigi.
Details
Description
The tour starts at the old sawmill above Surcuolm. Walking flat is out of the question here. It immediately goes uphill, although there are always a few meters to recover. The route takes you through forest clearings, past old barns, or across wide alpine meadows. A look back is always worthwhile because the panorama is very impressive everywhere.
From Pastira Sura, the ascent and descent routes separate. We recommend going left first towards Cuolm Dado. These slopes are better suited for the ascent. The pink posts lead you abwechslungsreich (alternately flat and steeper) under the former Sasolas ski lift to the Bündner Rigi. The restaurant invites you to take a break with one of the best views in the Surselva. Please be sure to check the opening times.
The return route is the same at the beginning. Immediately after the ski lift cable, turn left towards Cuolm Sura. At the mountain restaurant Cuolm Sura, there are once again excellent catering options before the route leads directly back to Surcuolm.
Hidden Gem
Dining options in Surcuolm (3 restaurants), Bündner Rigi (not always open) and Cuolm Sura (always open in season)
Safety Note
This snowshoe route is marked in the terrain with pink posts but not tracked. There are some steeper slopes. In case of high avalanche danger, tours in unsecured terrain must fundamentally be avoided.
More about the current avalanche risk at WhiteRisk.
For carefree enjoyment on longer tours, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe walking guides of the Surselva.
