Talwanderung Rheinwald (Sufers - Hinterrhein)

The valley hike along the young Hinterrhein through the Rheinwald begins at the village square in Sufers. From here, the route leads via the old transit route "viaSpluga" to Splügen. On the way to Splügen (about 1 km before the village) you will pass the castle ruins of Splügen, which were built around 1275.
Follow the path past the church to the village. Splügen is considered one of the oldest and most typical pass villages in Graubünden. It was awarded the coveted Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society in 1995. After taking a look at the village, the hike continues towards Medels. Cross the bridge over the Hinterrhein and turn right a few meters after the village shop at Erlenweg. Now the hiking trail runs along the Hinterrhein past Medels and Nufenen to Hinterrhein. Before you arrive in Hinterrhein you cross the Hinterrhein again to get to the village. Hinterrhein is the oldest documented Walser settlement. Sights in Hinterrhein are the Alte Landbrugg and the Bachhuus-Chäller, a 300-year-old vaulted cellar, which was cleaned up and converted into a cozy restaurant, where today food and drink are available by appointment.

Partial stages are also possible (Sufers-Splügen 1h, Splügen-Nufenen 1h 45min, Nufenen-Hinterrhein 1h 15min).
