Description

In Tschamut, we start with a short descent to the Rhine. Along the lively water, we walk over meadows and through alpine rose bushes uphill. At the height of Alp Milez, we meet the access road to the Maighelshütte, which we can leave again and again. At Plidutscha, we relax briefly on a flat stretch, and two or three bends further we already see our intermediate destination, the Maighelshütte. After a refreshment, we continue on the path, going up to the Tomasee, which offers very special colors and weather moods at any time of year. Incredible - the lake is also the source of the Rhine and this water travels over a thousand kilometers to the North Sea! For us, however, it is not quite that far anymore - toward Oberalppass, our valley run begins very gently, first over a rocky path, later on a high trail until just before the pass height. The following section, which partly runs on the track bed of the old railway line to Tschamut, is almost lovingly called the "senior path" by locals. But we feel very comfortable here, the path is ideal for an easy jog.

Hidden Gem

We find refreshment with a plunge into the water of Lai Urlaun. Culinary delights are provided by the Maighelshütte with cappuccino and fruit cake.

Safety Note

The trail is usually open from around mid-June. Some snowfields may still be possible. There is plenty of water on the way.

Directions

From Tschamut, we follow the signposted hiking trail to the Maighelshütte. Below the hut, we join hiking route no. 49, which we follow until just before the Oberalppass. As soon as the pass road is reached, we cross to the other side of the road and find here the hiking trail along the railway line back to Tschamut.
