The Albula/Bernina railway line is a masterpiece of engineering solutions and harmony between nature and human intervention from the pioneering era of railways. The first part of the hiking trail follows the Albula line from Thusis north of the Alps through the Albula Valley via Fuorcla Crap Alv into Val Bever, passing the unique high plateau of the Upper Engadine to St. Moritz. The southern four stages continue over the Bernina Pass into Val Poschiavo and finally to Tirano in the Italian Veltlin region.
To experience on foot one of the most diverse natural and cultural landscapes between high alpine, alpine, and subtropical zones, always accompanied by the Albula and Bernina Railway, is one of the most beautiful experiences for a hiker. In harmony with nature, the UNESCO sites embedded in the wild alpine landscape, such as bridges, viaducts, (spiral) tunnels, and stations, can be excellently explored on this hike. Three linguistic and cultural regions, numerous scenic gems, and places with unique character complete the hiking experience.
A long-distance hiking trail for everyone, as the route repeatedly touches the trackbed of the Rhaetian Railway and offers the security to get on and off at any time and tailor daily stages according to your own fitness and interests.
