Description

This stage of Via Son Giachen is one of the demanding alpine sections, where it makes sense to study the weather forecast well the evening before. The only base (food, overnight stays) is the SAC Etzlihütte, which is located a good 1 km behind the Mittelplatten pass crossing. The section from this hut to Amsteg is also legged, as Amsteg in the Reuss Valley of Uri is much deeper than Sedrun in the Surselva. The Etzlihütte is therefore a predestined resting or overnight stop.

After the start in Sedrun we cross via Camischolas and Mila into Val Mila. There we follow the stream northwards until it goes relatively steeply from Alp Mila to the pass crossing called Mittelplatten. After the pass, the sloping part follows to the Etzlihütte.

After a meal or overnight stay, rocky, steeper sections follow again at the Gadmenstutz and below the Rossboden, but then it goes easily along the Etzlibach out of the valley. Only shortly before Amsteg (near Bristen) the deeply incised Bristenobel forces us to end the hike along the stream. The trail runs on the right side of the ravine

Geheimtipp

In case of bad weather forecast you can get by public transport from Trun via Oberalp and Andermatt to Amsteg. Via Son Giachen ends in Amsteg. For the continuation along the Reuss we recommend the "Ticino connecting path to via Jakobi".
