Details

Description

The tour starts in Montespluga near the dam of Lago di Monte Spluga. Initially, the path gently follows the valley in a north-eastern direction. The skins are quickly attached, and you soon enter the vast, snow-covered Suretta valley.

The ascent becomes more consistent and the surroundings increasingly high alpine. You head towards the impressive rock formations dominated by the peaks Pizzo Groppo (2894 m) and Piz Por (3028 m). The route follows the moraine or the gentle slopes, steadily approaching the saddle.

The highest point of the tour is usually reached in the area of Pass da Suretta (approx. 2580 m) or a nearby crossing. This section can be challenging depending on snow conditions. In icy or crusty conditions, the use of crampons is strongly recommended. On the pass summit (approx. 2580 m), the view opens to the north into the Swiss Val Niemet. Here at the border, there is often a break for a last look back to the Italian side and preparation for the long descent.

The descent is the highlight of the tour. It starts on wide, often untracked slopes. Val Niemet is a relatively unknown, wild valley ideal for wide turns if the powder snow allows. The descent is long and crosses various terrain levels.

The last meters are often a flat traverse or a short descent along the stream until you finally reach the destination in Innerferrera, where there are dining and transport options.
