Winter hiking trail to Cavloc Lake

Show all 8 images

Comfortable wide winter hiking trail from Maloja to Lägh da Cavloc and further up to just before Plan Canin.
Details
Description
Starting at the parking lot Orden, the road initially runs to the Salecina Vacation and Education Center. This first section lies between the sunny circular trail Orden. Afterwards, a wide forest path, also used by experienced cross-country skiers, snowshoers, or ski tourers, leads up toward the lake. The trees thin out repeatedly, giving views of the impressive Piz da la Margna. Even though the Cavloccio restaurant is hibernating during winter, a rest on the terrace is worthwhile, with a view up to Piz Salecina. For those who want to hike further: the winter trail is tracked further up to just before Plan Canin. After a narrow passage, the valley opens with views towards Muretto Pass, Pizzi dei Rossi, and the Forno valley.
Hidden Gem
Bring a picnic and tea! The restaurant at Cavloc Lake is closed in winter, but there are sunny benches.
Safety Note
Easy walking trail.
If there is frequent thawing and refreezing in winter, some spots can be icy and slippery.
Equipment
Normal winter hiking equipment.
