Show all 4 images
Trail running over forest path and frozen Lake Sils, from Maloja via Isola to Sils Maria and back to the starting point across the wide surface of Lake Sils.
Details
Description
We start at the cross-country skiing center in Maloja and run past the Maloja Palace Hotel to the lakeshore. From here, we continue along the slightly rolling lakeside path in the forest to the hamlet of Isola, the 'border point' of the Bregaglia municipality. From Isola, the path leads across Lake Sils to the shore of Sils. Along the shore, you reach the Chastè peninsula, which also marks the turning point of this pleasure route. From Chastè, follow the well-marked winter path first towards Plaun da Lej and Isola back to Maloja. The frozen lake gives a sense of vastness typically known from coastal regions rather than the high mountains. With the sun on your face, this route is especially enjoyable in the afternoon.
Hidden Gem
Tip: This route is only accessible under good conditions from about mid-January to mid-March. The hiking trails on the lake are considered open when the pink and turquoise wooden posts mark the path.
Safety Note
This route is only passable when the ice on the lake is cleared for access!
