Winterrundwanderung Las Squadras

The name "Las Squadras" has always been used by the locals. The leisurely tour can be started and ended from any of the four villages.

We start in Rabius at the Hotel Greina and hike along the old road across the Rhine to Surrein. From the eastern edge of the village, at the Placi Pign restaurant, you follow the elongated village of Surrein, partly parallel to the "Nordic Surselva" cross-country ski trail. When the end of the plain is reached, the Rhine can be crossed thanks to the "Punt Gonda" bridge. The cross-country ski trail also runs on the left side of the Rhine. We ask winter hikers to be considerate of cross-country skiers and the cross-country ski trail.

After passing the Resgia, we follow the road to Cumpadials and then up towards Sumvitg to the Ustria dalla Staziun. Then the path leads below Sumvitg along the sunny slope.

From here you have a slightly different view of Sumvitg with its imposing church of St. John the Baptist to the north and to the south to the Surreiner plain, where you can watch the nimble cross-country skiers.

The route then runs partly over the old cantonal road, which will be used for non-motorised traffic after the construction of the new bridge. You cross the small hamlet of Runs with its picturesque chapel of St. Nicholas until you arrive back in Rabius.
