Splügen im Sommer vom Hotel Alte Herberge Weiss Kreuz

The listed Reformed church in Splügen is astonishingly large for Graubünden.

Description

Around 843, the imperial property register lists an ecclesia in Solonio, located to the north of Reischen. Reischen adopted the Reformation between 1530 and 1535. The current church dates from 1709, while the people of Reischen were previously parishioners of St Martin's in Zillis.

The church and tower are a compact, squat building. The tower with its single-storey belfry has a pointed spire flattened at the base, while the nave is covered by a hipped roof.

The baroque-style choir is covered by a ribless cellular vault. On the left-hand side, a pulpit without a sounding board dominates the church interior. The baptismal font in the form of a double funnel, which stands conspicuously in front of the chancel and on which communion is also celebrated, takes centre stage.

Opening hours

The church is open during the day and freely accessible.
