Lai Tigiel is a lake east of Savognin in the municipality of Surses in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It is located at 2462 m above sea level, between Piz Mitgel, Tinzenhorn and Pizza Grossa. The lake is located in the middle of Parc Ela, a 600 km² nature park opened in 2006.

From the Crap la Tretscha vantage point near Lantsch/Lenz, the view sweeps over Alvaschein and the Schin Gorge over to Stierva, Mon and on towards Oberhalbstein. To the left of this valley rises the distinctive Piz Mitgel, followed by the Albula Valley.

This over 100 year-old railway stretch over the Albula and Bernina passes is a masterpiece of construction engineering and line layout. Since July 2008 the Albula and Bernina lines of the Rhaetian Railway are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

The church stands on a pronounced terrace to the east of the village, surrounded by the shade of a centuries-old linden tree, the tall medieval tower, the Capuchin fathers' convent and the ossuary.

Segantini 19: Le cattive madri – Die bösen Mütter, 1894
The picture refers to the poem «Nirvana» by Luigi Illica. Segantini painted it at the Lai Tigiel above Alp Tussagn on the opposite side of the valley. He may also have been inspired by the figures in the ceiling painting in the church of Son Martegn.
