1.1 AstroEvent: The View from Space - How Earth Observation Improves Our Future

What do we see when we look at Earth from space, and what does this knowledge mean for our everyday lives? Dr. Felix Seidel Caprez's lecture offers insights into modern Earth observation. He demonstrates how the collected data, when correctly combined, generates new knowledge and forms the basis for decision-making – including data from Brienz and Blatten on the topic of mass movements. The ETH Swiss GeoLab in Lucerne will also be presented. It combines research, technology, and applied Earth observation for greater safety, economic benefits, and sustainable development. Dr. Felix Seidel Caprez is the Managing Director of the ETH Swiss GeoLab. Previously, he was responsible for an Earth observation research program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
