Brazil, 1977: Marcelo, an academic in his mid-40s, is on the run. He arrives in Recife during the exuberant Carnival week to see his son again and finds shelter in the underground thanks to a network of solidarity. With attention to detail, idiosyncratic characters and subtle humour, Kleber Mendonça Filho (Aquarius) paints a stylised picture of the last years of the military regime and develops a phenomenal political thriller from it. "Narcos" star Wagner Moura shines in the leading role, for which he was awarded the Best Actor award in Cannes, while Kleber Mendonça Filho accepted the award for Best Director at the same time.
