Event Arosa Lenzerheide
Bergkirchli-Konzert mit Franco Mettler & Edmauro de Oliveira
Description
In 1870, waltzes and polkas were played in Europe, and society in Rio de Janeiro wanted that too. Some of the musicians were enslaved, which brought African rhythms into play. And "päng" is the first Brazilian musical style born in Rio de Janeiro: CHORO! Some say CHORO comes from crying because the melodies are sometimes very melancholic. Others say it comes from the African: Xolo is an African dance. It's not exactly known. It is played primarily with the guitar, bandolim, and pandero. The soloists are clarinet, flute, and mandolin. But gradually, other instruments were added as well. The dialogue between the instruments is essential. A woman played a key role in shaping the style of Choro: Franzisca Gonzaga. Later important composers included Ernesto Nazareth, Jacop do Bandolim, and Pixinguinha, among many others. They contributed hundreds of compositions. Franco Mettler, clarinet - Edmauro de Oliveira, guitar
