After the damming in 1882, Lake Heid attracted all sorts of people: citizens from Chur, writers (Thomas Mann), artists (Hanna Kiel, Annemarie Schwarzenbach), theologians (Leonhard Ragaz), women's activists (Clara Ragaz, Gertrud Rüegg), and playboys. They built summer villas, constructed hotels, established holiday colonies, operated the adult education home Casoja, and indulged in the Dolce far niente.
