Scuol Classics – Carmina Burana 2026

After the successful performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the summer of 2024 in the Halle Gurlaina in Scuol, the next major cultural project of the Scuol Classics association will follow in 2026: Carmina Burana by Carl Orff with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra from San Francisco!

"Carmina Burana" is both a medieval manuscript and a scenic cantata by Carl Orff. The manuscript, which was found in the Benediktbeuern monastery, contains Latin and Middle High German songs and poems. Orff's cantata of 1935/36 uses texts from this collection and is known for its powerful choir "O Fortuna".

This major cultural event in the Lower Engadine will again be held in cooperation with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Urs Leonhardt Steiner. A total of between 130 and 150 musicians from Graubünden and San Francisco (USA) will be on stage together. Martin Zimmermann will conduct the choir on site, the musician Cinzia Regensburger will perform as répétiteur.

For this extraordinary bridge to different cultures and countries, there is only one common language – music!

"Carmina Burana" was premiered on 8 June 1937 at the Frankfurt am Main Opera. Almost 90 years later, the cantata will be performed in the Lower Engadine, namely from 18 to 21 June 2026 in the Halle Gurlaina in Scuol.
