While cleaning up the basement, Tobi and Marina discover an old video recording. In it, eight-year-old Tobi hosts a self-invented show about the earth in our soils – and asks his very first "checker question": Who leaves the mightiest traces in the soil? But Tobi has long since forgotten the answer. So he goes in search of clues, and thus on his greatest adventure to date. It takes him to the flora and fauna of Madagascar, to the permafrost region of Spitsbergen, to the traces of the ancient Maya in Mexico. Only when he recognizes what connects all the soils and what that has to do with us can he provide his greatest challenger, himself, with the answer he is looking for.
