Cinema: "in die Sonne schauen" in Ilanz

A secluded farm in the Altmark. For over a century, the walls have breathed the life of the people who live here, their tastes, their being in time. "Looking into the Sun" tells the story of four women from different eras – Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s) and Nelly (2020s) – whose lives are uncannily interwoven. Each of them experiences their childhood or youth on this farm, but as they roam through their own present, traces of the past are revealed to them. When a tragic event repeats itself on the farm, the boundaries between past and present begin to falter.

"Looking into the Sun" is a journey of discovery through the finest ramifications of emotional worlds over four generations. Director Mascha Schilinski created the sensation of the last festival in Cannes with her great, epochal work and won the jury prize. Her film drills deep into our perception and stages the miracle where the sensation is most fleeting – in the quickly fading sense of time.
