Micha Hartung, owner of a video store in Berlin, is on the verge of bankruptcy. He is contacted by an ambitious journalist who smells a big story. He claims to have found out that Micha organized a mass escape from the GDR 35 years ago. He did so by changing a switch that led an S-Bahn train to the West. As Micha needs every penny and the journalist offers him the prospect of a well-paid story, he doesn't contradict him. Soon all the media and talk shows are talking about him, he is on everyone's lips and is celebrated as a hero. Then he meets Paula - but the budding love story between the two threatens to sink into a chaos of lies and false reports, just like the rest of Micha's life... "Der Held vom Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse" tells a fast-paced, touching and highly entertaining story of an impostor. It was directed by Wolfgang Becker, who became internationally famous with "Good Bye, Lenin!" and has since passed away. His latest work is about the courage to leave seemingly insurmountable obstacles behind, about the struggle of a person not exactly pursued by luck against the madness of this world - and about the power of storytelling. The comedy is based on the novel of the same name by Maxim Leo, is excellently acted right down to the supporting roles and shines with warmth, depth, wit and esprit.
