The film tells the story of a US actor (Oscar® winner Brendan Fraser) living in Tokyo who is searching for meaning in his life until he manages to land an unusual job. For a Japanese "Rental Family" agency, he slips into different roles and plays the son, husband or father as a family member. As he immerses himself more and more in the lives of his clients and helps them fill their family gaps, he begins to build genuine bonds that blur the boundaries between acting and reality. As he grapples with the moral aspects of his new job, he rediscovers the meaning of life, a sense of belonging and the beauty of interpersonal relationships.

After its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, it quickly became clear that "Rental Family" is one of those quiet audience favorites that you don't feel in your chest, but in your stomach.
