Event Arosa Lenzerheide
Im Einsatz für die Naturvielfalt im Schanfigg
Description
Lüen, the small village in the Ausser-Schanfigg. Close to Chur and yet idyllically situated. Together with the hunters of the Montalin section, we are clearing the "Sufs" dry site on the southern slopes below Lüen.
Support the Montalin hunting section in promoting natural diversity in the Schanfigg.
"Sufs" is an open area surrounded by forest on the southern slopes of Lüen, about 100 metres below the RhB railway track. The area is part of the biotope inventory of the canton of Graubünden as a dry meadow/dry pasture of regional importance. The cruciferous gentian (Gentiana cruciata) grows here. This plant species is considered endangered. The area is in danger of overgrowing and becoming overgrown. If it becomes forest, a dry site valuable for biodiversity is lost. To prevent this from happening, active hands are needed.
The hunters of the Montalin section have been taking care of keeping the area open for some time. It is mowed regularly. In order for the area to be enlarged even further and not to grow in, it must be cleared of bushes. Together with the hunters of the Montalin section, we are clearing the ecologically valuable dry site. This mission is THE chance to work together with the local hunters for the natural diversity in the Schanfigg. Are you in?
The area is located in the "Castiel – Lüen" landscape conservation area of regional importance. In this landscape we find numerous, beautifully formed rough meadows in a structurally rich hedgerow landscape with individual fens.
"Nature connects" is a participatory project with which the WWF promotes biodiversity in our cultural landscape. For nature, for agriculture, for society: Farmers work hand in hand with WWF volunteers: they plant hedges and orchards together, maintain meadows and pastures, install nesting boxes and fight neophytes.
This mission is a collaboration between WWF Graubünden and the Montalin hunting section.
Program
We meet at Lüen train station. Welcome by the WWF operations management and by Armando Brügger, chairman of the Montalin section. On foot, we reach the scene of the incident via a path downhill. Armando and the WWF operations management explain the work to us. After the work is completed, we will climb back to Lüen train station, where we will have a barbecue together and end the day. Happy, tired and satisfied, we take the RhB back to Chur or back to Arosa at 4:28 p.m.
