Excursion in the Rhine Gorge: Not all that glitters is gold: but perhaps still exciting to take a closer look at?

Mineral search, land art and barbecue in a unique setting

This guided tour of the month of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona takes you into the Rhine Gorge.

We are expected to meet at 10:15 a.m. at Versam train station. A short walk takes us to the nearby sandbanks, where we get a first impression of the unique landscape. Here we deal with the origin of this natural phenomenon and let the dimensions of the historic Flims landslide work their magic on us.

On a leisurely hike of about an hour towards Valendas, we discover the botanical and faunistic peculiarities of this region.

Around noon we reach the sandbanks around the mouth of the Carrera stream. At this location, we look at the rocks of the different catchment areas. If the weather is nice, we will make a small fire and while we wait for a good ember, we will deal with the individual components of the rocks - the minerals.

Depending on personal preferences, we use the time after lunch for a well-deserved nap, for another mineral analysis or for some land art - because the diverse rocks that the Vorderrhein transports are also suitable for this.

A short walk of 20 minutes will take us to Valendas train station, where the excursion ends at 16:00.
