flimsfestival: Gianna Olinda Cadonau

Gianna Olinda Cadonau grew up in the Engadin, spoke Romansh with her father and Swiss German with her mother. In 2016 and 2020, she published the multilingual poetry volumes "ultim'ura da la not - Last Hour of the Night" and "pajais in uondas - Cradled Land" with editionmevinapuorger. In 2023, her first novel, already award-winning, followed: "The Fire Lily". In addition to her literary activities, Gianna Olinda Cadonau is also active in Graubünden's cultural life in many ways. Since 2010, she has been responsible for cultural promotion at the umbrella organisation of Romance language associations "Lia Rumantscha", promotes the language and brings people together. Tonight, the author will read from her latest stories "Am Kantenhain". They address the foreign, the otherness, the search for belonging, friendship, riddles and miracles. Between the lines of her atmospherically dense, artful stories lies a suggestive pull effect. Gianna Olinda Cadonau gently and subtly illuminates the relationships of her characters in her poetic, clear language, and thus succeeds in making the unspeakable visible with great empathy.

The musician Jan Rehwinkel frames the texts on his didgeridoo by eliciting unexpected sounds, from floating light to energetically charged. Influenced by Indian rhythms, his percussive playing repeatedly builds a bridge between the earthy fundamental tone of the didgeridoo and the subtleties of the sound design.
