Grand Mother's Funck
Description
For 30 years, Grand Mother's Funck (GMF) have been delving into the rich treasure trove of African-American music genres, skilfully absorbing everything that serves their goal: to create music that is impossible to escape.
The inventors of ‘Le Funck Fédéral’ have released over 160 of their own songs since 1993, constantly refining their art and remaining true to themselves. The seven-piece band GMF has been playing together consistently since the 1990s. Singer Rich Fonje has been with them for over 20 years.
Their first CD, Grand Mother's Funck, was a smash hit in 1994, and eleven more were to follow over the years. In 1996, GMF stormed the US college charts with their second album, Please Baby Please Baby Baby Baby Please, resulting in fan clubs in Japan and the Bahamas. The single ‘Call Me’ was a hit on DRS3 and catapulted the band onto all the major festival stages and into every party venue in Switzerland and neighbouring countries.
In the middle of the first coronavirus lockdown, GMF released their 12th studio album, ‘The Big Pie’, which immediately landed at number 3 in the Swiss album charts.
