A little more than half a decade after his acclaimed debut "Vanishing Points" from 2018, Swiss guitarist, composer and improvisational musician Manuel Troller releases his new album "Halcyon Future". A rhythmically dense and ambiguous, yet joyful journey through unstable times, a plea for warmth and hopeful resistance. Troller's way of integrating, deepening and expanding small elements from improvised sessions creates a multi-layered work, driving rhythms and abstract, vibrant textures. The first piece begins with the unmistakable open pulse of "Halcyon Future I" and takes us through subtle, almost unrecognizable harmonic shifts that span an extended period of time, overlapping and creating a sense of ambiguity, until the piece reaches an almost optimistic level with Mario Hänni's unexpected use of driving acoustic drums. Relentlessly and with increasing tension, heavy electronic 80s bass drums and an armada of superimposed hi-hats drive them forward and lead to the all-encompassing melodic finale.
