Madagaskar – Alles auf Anfang

Gigantic, ancient baobab trees, bizarre thorn forests in rust-red sand, jagged coniferous rocks, silk sifakas, the nimble, snow-white lemurs - Madagascar is extraordinary. Legends tell that this is the place of absolute origin.

The story of Katja and Beppo Niedermeier also sets everything back to the beginning. Her visually stunning journey through 20 years of Madagascar takes a look behind the scenes. In Madagascar, time seems to stand still and yet every moment is fleeting. Like a Noah's Ark, the island drifts in the ocean and is home to rare animal and plant species that have long since become extinct in other parts of the world. Colourful chameleons, bizarre leaf-tailed geckos, the legendary aye-aye take you back to the prehistory of nature. The heart of the island beats in its own rhythm, which the traveler cannot escape.

Whether in spectacular aerial shots or close to the subject - Katja and Beppo Niedermeier show the scenic and cultural diversity, as well as the endemic uniqueness of Madagascar from a wide variety of perspectives. Their own perspectives have also changed during this long time. In Alles auf Anfang they therefore tell of their very personal relationship to the island. Partly thoughtful, partly with self-irony, they report on searching and finding the way, the serenity to get involved in plan B and the ability to trust in the inner voice.
