Born and raised in San Vittore, Mesolcina, Lawtoo studied literature at the University of Lausanne before moving to the United States, where he earned a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Washington in Seattle. Later, he taught at the University of Lausanne, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and at the University of Leuven in Belgium where he directed an ERC (European Research Council) research project entitled Homo Mimeticus. He was recently appointed full professor at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.

Author of internationally renowned works translated into various languages, Lawtoo proposes a current and interdisciplinary reflection on the role of imitation in contemporary society.

Lawtoo presents its books in dialogue with Michela Daghini, RSI Rete Uno journalist in a lively and open conversation that intertwines philosophy, literature and contemporary culture.
