The traditional orchestral concert between Christmas and New Year is truly the musical highlight of the two alternating years. At Christmas, there should be jubilation and the music should awaken a sublime feeling of happiness. The composer C.M.v. Weber succeeded excellently in writing solemn festive music with his Jubelouverture. The grandiose soprano Anna Shumarina masters the most difficult coloratura with ease in Mozart's "Exsultate", and expresses the deepest lyrical sadness in Bellini's most famous aria "Casta Diva". This year's contemporary work "Sil trutg enviers igl infinit" by the Georgian composer M. Virsaladze also conveys this contemplative atmosphere in the best possible way. As a jubilant counterweight: a fiery Slavic rhapsody by A. Dvorak and Smetana's masterpiece "The Vltava".
