Urushi Workshop at Hotel Maistra 160

You will learn the technique of Fuki Urushi or wiping varnish. This technique can also be found on the shimmering shelves in the bathrooms of the Hotel Maistra 160! Coat one or, if you wish, several turned bowls with the sap of the urushi lacquer tree and color your object. In parallel to the craftsmanship, you will gain an insight into the ancient and rich lacquer culture of Japan, China and Korea: a perhaps unknown world opens up.
At the end of the workshop, you will not only take home your own work of art, but also beautiful memories.

Salome Lippuner is an experienced artist who specializes in the Urushi craft. She works with traditional techniques and materials to create unique works of art.
