Weihnachtskonzert mit dem Quartett Balerna in Siat

The Balerna Quartet is a young Swiss quartet founded in 2024. All members are alumni of the Zurich University of the Arts, where they also met and discovered making music together.
The quartet thrives on the different mentalities and temperaments that each individual member brings to the table. Thus, the foundation of the quartet, on the viola and the violoncello, is formed by Demian Herzog and Johannes Herzog. One could suspect a kinship – but this can only be found in musical fraternization. The high voices on the violins are played by Emanuele Zanforlin and Ísak Ríkharðsson. As different roots as the two bring with them – Emanuele from the southernmost tip of Ticino and Ísak from the Nordic island of Iceland – the playing of the two violins is powerful and yet harmonious.
In addition to the usual quartet repertoire, the Balerna Quartet enthusiastically devotes itself to what is probably the earliest composed quartets in history – even before Haydn, the forefather of the string quartet – namely the seven quartets by Franz Xaver Richter.
