Thomas Zindel – Wild Order: The Return to the Gesture
Thomas Zindel carries out a radical change in his work. After two decades of constructivist discipline (2003–2021) – characterized by geometric rigor, line grids and meditative spatiality – the distinguished Graubünden artist returns to the expressive gesture of his beginnings.
In the spring of 2022, the turning point occurred: Zindel lost access to his material. What began as a crisis became productive liberation. The overpainting of constructivist picture fragments with wild, gestural painting is linked to his beginnings in 1979 – a return with the experience of over four decades of artistic practice.
His new "landscapes" are not images, but traces of process, experiences of the world. Layers of paint, gestural superimpositions – a painterly way of thinking that observes itself as it emerges.
