Description
The outdoor fitness trails in the Heidiland holiday region comprise over 30 uniformly signposted running routes from a total of 10 stations, making it one of the largest outdoor fitness parks in the Alpine region. The 2-Villages Trail is one of three running routes around the Flums station.
The starting point for this 7.8 km long trail is the Infopoint of the Flums station at the car park near the station (451 m above sea level). Still at the station, before the bridge over the Seez, all three trails turn right onto the footpath along the stream to the next little bridge. After crossing this, the route continues through a residential area towards the football field. It is only here that the trails split. The 2-Villages Trail and the St. Georgen Trail continue behind the football field on a promenade path along the Schils stream - with a magnificent view of Gräpplang castle ruins, the surrounding vineyards, and the imposing Churfirsten. At the ARA (436) the trails follow a paved road that leads over the railway bridge towards Berschis. After the overpass the trails diverge. Just before the motorway overpass the 2-Villages Trail turns left towards Maienriet and Tscherlach - always with the impressive Churfirsten in sight, past fruit trees, meadows, and fields. Once reaching the small village of Tscherlach (435), the trail turns right towards the main road. Shortly before reaching it, the route continues on a paved promenade path along the Tscherlerbach stream and right through the idyllic village of Berschis (444). On this section, there is always a wonderful view of the chapel of St. Georgen, which towers high above the village. At the village exit, you meet the St. Georgen Trail again. Together, the trails pass through the industrial zone between Flums and Walenstadt to the motorway underpass, which leads back to the Infopoint at the station car park in Flums.
Hidden Gem
The outdoor fitness trails run mostly on official hiking paths. The hiking trail signs also help you find your way along the route.
At the end of the Bachsandweg there is an information point about the impressive Berschnerfall waterfall. A detour is worthwhile. The path is signposted.
