Description

The hike begins at the valley station of the Rinerhorn Railway in Davos Glaris. In the residential area of Davos Glaris follow the path leading across the road bridge to Monstein Station. After an initial climb the hiking trail follows the road from a slightly elevated position. The Davos Monstein Station is reached after approx. 1.5 hours. This is also a good alternative starting point for the hike as it is the most beautiful section of the route.

Follow the path running parallel with the road for approx. 5 minutes before branching off at Restaurant Schmelzboden and following the trail into the Zügen Gorge. The Graubünden Mining Museum is located here, featuring lots of interesting facts & figures about the history of mining in the area as well as a collection of rocks and minerals.

The Davos Monstein Station is also an alternative starting point for the hike. From here the hike through the Zügen Gorge to Davos Wiesen Station takes approx. 1.5 hours. The hike is both a mobility path and a geology trail, offering you the possibility of calling up lots of information on your mobile phone.

There’s so much to see in the Zügen Gorge. It was once the route taken by coaches travelling to Davos, and there are a number of information panels recalling that period. Today a level gravel path takes you through tunnels and across bridges and the crystal-clear flowing waters of the Landwasser mountain river. Every half hour you can watch the Rhaetian Railway as it winds its way through the rocky valley.

Geheimtipp

From Davos Wiesen Station why not hop onto the train at the end of your hike and travel back to Davos Platz in comfort.
