Description

The cow alp Rona is maintained by farmers from Furna with just under 80 dairy cows and some alpine pigs. During the summer months, in addition to about 8,400 kg of alpine cheese, alpine butter and whey cheese are also produced. At the church in Furna, follow the road past the depot, signposted "Alp Rona." After the small settlement "Riedji," follow the hiking trail to the right, thus bypassing the mountain road via Ducheltobel along the Müleggibach. A short section leads over the road again before the hiking trail turns left and continues along the Müleggibach. Then the hiking trail joins the mountain road again and shortly after, at the height of "Adamsch Gada," turns left again and leads over the gentle hills of the Furner mountain past Schwänzelegg towards Alp Rona. The last section leads on the mountain road and then on a paved gravel road to Alp Rona. The descent back to Furna is either on the same route or via Scäri/Hinterberg.

Hidden Gem

  • Many paths lead to Alp Rona - on foot, by bike, but also arrival by car is possible with the appropriate paid driving permit (www.furna.ch). To enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the Furner mountain, it is recommended to travel "under your own power".
  • When the Grüsch-Danusa cable cars are in operation, the alp can also be conveniently reached by gondola from Grüsch (hike from the Schwänzelegg mountain station to Alp Rona takes about 30 minutes).

Directions

The cow alp Rona is maintained by farmers from Furna with just under 80 dairy cows and some alpine pigs. During the summer months, in addition to about 8,400 kg of alpine cheese, alpine butter and whey cheese are also produced. At the church in Furna, follow the road past the depot, following the sign "Alp Rona." After the small settlement "Riedji," a hiking trail branches off to the right, which allows bypassing the mountain road via Ducheltobel along the Müleggibach. A short section leads again over the road before the hiking trail turns left and continues along the Müleggibach. Again, the hiking trail joins the mountain road after about 15 minutes, shortly after the trail turns left again at the height of "Adamsch Gada" and leads over the gentle hills and lush meadows of the Furner mountain past Schwänzelegg towards Alp Rona. The hiking trail returns one last time to the mountain road, which is paved with gravel for the last meters up to the alp. The descent back to Furna either passes by Wissensteintobel towards Scäri and then down towards Furna. Those who want to enjoy the panorama a little longer continue in the direction of Wannaspitz and then turn with a view into the Prättigau towards Furna Hinterberg.
