Description

The first part of the hike leads along a country path through lush meadows down to Alp Trida. This part can also be covered by chairlift. Past the ski house (open only in winter) the path gently ascends towards Alp Bella. To the south, you can enjoy the view of Piz Mundin and the Ötztal Alps. After about one hour of hiking from the starting point, Alp Bella is reached. The alp is one of the highest cow alpine pastures in Europe, at 2,380 m above sea level. The milk is processed in the dairy in Samnaun-Laret. Transportation is done via an approx. 1.5 cm thick milk pipeline. From Alp Bella, you can also see the round rock formation “by the church”; an impressive geological witness of the Alpine folding. After a break, the hike continues via Oberalp to Unteralp, where the Alpstein, one of Switzerland’s largest erratic boulders, lies. Leisurely, it goes along the Mühlbach stream down to Samnaun-Compatsch or Samnaun-Laret.
