Description

A well-developed, mostly flat natural road leads you to Rueun train station. There stands the oldest wooden bridge in the canton of Graubünden – it is also one of the oldest in Europe. In Rueun, the path follows the road into the village of Rueun; here turn onto the Via Principala (right towards Schnaus). At the church in the village of Rueun, the circular route turns left (between the houses). Note that the signpost is somewhat hidden. After Rueun, you have the option to walk part of the historic "Via Suworow" or take the little detour through the village of Schnaus. Shortly before Schnaus and the historic site of the Gebr. Giger, there is a forest nature trail. It is worth allowing some extra time to visit the Gigerseeli or to see the old waterwheel.

Shortcut options:

- Before the Rueun depot, a signpost leads to Schnaus. This way, you can shorten the round slightly.

- In Rueun (directly at the wooden bridge) is Rueun station, offering the possibility to return to Ilanz by Rhaetian Railway.

On the way between Ilanz and Rueun is an idyllic picnic/grill area with several fire pits and access to the Rhine. Perfect for a refreshment break.

Hidden Gem

A visit to the historic workshop in Schnaus is worthwhile. Please note the opening times: www.mulin-schnaus.ch

After Rueun, part of the circular route can be walked on the historic "Via Suworow" and in

Schnaus, a detour through the forest nature trail with the Gigerseeli near the historic site of the Gebr. Giger is worthwhile.
