Very rewarding, long route from Soglio over a historic pass to the village of Cröt.
Details
Description
From Soglio, the path leads the first kilometers through the forest to the Alp Däir. Here the character of the route changes and over steep pasture slopes and scree fields, the path climbs up to the Pass da la Prassgnola. Formerly, the alp pastures of Val Madris north of the pass belonged to Soglio. Every year the animals had to be led over the pass to reach their summer grazing area. The stone steps remind of the hard work that was necessary for this… Today, sheep herds guarded by livestock guardian dogs graze up here. The descent is less steep and between the alp buildings Sovräna and Cröt, the track follows the stream Ägua da Madris in the flat valley floor.
Hidden Gem
The hike can be combined into a two-day excursion, returning via the Val Bergalga, the Roda Pass, and the Pass da la Duana.
Safety Note
Long distance with many altitude meters, start early in the morning.
Equipment
Mountain boots, enough water and provisions
Directions
At the upper end of the village of Soglio, follow the path west to the Maiensässen Dair and Leira. Initially on a forest road, later on a narrower hiking trail. From Dair, the character of the route changes and the path climbs over steep pastures and scree fields up to the Pass da la Prassgnola. After the pass height (2724 m), the descent begins through the short Prasignola valley. On a wooden bridge, you cross the stream from the Val da Roda and then come across the path that leads down from the Pass da Roda. A little further down, you reach the plain of the Alp La Sovräna, where the agricultural track begins, leading through the long Madristal valley to Cröt (1715 m). In Cröt there is a restaurant, accommodation options, and a post bus stop.
