Davos Platz – Strelapass – Langwies

At the starting point Davos Platz, we ascend from the station on the Rathausstutz up to the promenade (on the left in the facility the Bubenbrunnen by Schwerzmann) and follow it to the right to the Holsboerweg at the Guggerbach. We follow this path along the stream upwards and reach the Praviganweg passing the Catholic church to the edge of the forest. After crossing the stream on a concrete bridge (no vehicles allowed), we reach a pleasant walking path through the wild but storm-thinned fir trees of the Chilcher Bannwald up to the wonderfully situated Schatzalp. This section can also be easily covered by the funicular railway. From the mountain hotel from the turn of the century, a beautiful path leads northwards to the restaurant Strelaalp.

It continues through the upper forest areas past fir and centuries-old larches at a moderate incline over alpine pastures to the valley station of the ski lift. Just above the station, the area flattens, and without much effort, one reaches the mountain house Strelapass. From the pass summit, paths lead in all directions: to the Schiahorn; through the Haupter valley to the Weissfluhjoch; on the magnificent panorama path to the Parsennhütte; over the Tritt to Arosa; to the Chörbsch Horn and over the Podestatenalp to Davos Platz. The path to Sapün passes to the left of the viewpoint with a weather vane and zigzags steeply down into the Haupter valley and over the Haupter footbridge. On the sunny side we reach the year-round open mountain inn Heimeli in Jatz and further to the only seasonally inhabited Chüpfen. From here, gently downhill via the hamlet Schmitten we reach Sapün Dörfji, whose old, sun-browned houses are decorated with meaningful inscriptions.

Passing scattered farms, we continue hiking high above the Sapünbach. Ten minutes below Dörfji, the valley narrows and steepens through fir and larch forest down to the second bridge over the Sapünbach. We cross the Fondeierbach just above the confluence on an old covered wooden bridge, the Sapünsteg, and then reach the Arosa road. To the right, the hiking trail leads above the road to the church and the main settlement of the municipality of Langwies. From here, we pass the hotel Bahnhof and reach the Langwies station in about 5 minutes.
